Cyber Terrorism: Aspects & Course Integration

  • Gary Rogers, Macon State College, & Jason Ashford, Assistant District Attorney, Houston County, GA
In this era of heightened security awareness, the issue of cyber terrorism is certainly relevant. This presentation will discuss this issue AND how we have incorporated this crucial concept in a class. Students are increasingly aware of this issue and want information about it since they are aware that prospective employers are ALSO acutely interested. We attack this issue via several methods including in-depth Internet and non-Internet research and extensive hands on exercises, including investigating the many aspects of cyberterrorism and testing over ten firewall products in the areas of network and system performance and vulnerabilities. As an example, students attempt to "compromise" these products and write up their results in a fairly-extensive report.
