Blackboard 5 - Web-based course experiences

  • Melanie Anderson,University of Pittsburgh at Titusville
This session summarizes the experiences of three instructors from the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville who offered Blackboard 5 web-based courses (all facets except exams) during the Fall 2001 semester. These were entry-level courses and were ideal candidates for web-based instruction. Web-based instruction techniques/tools used included Word or HTML files for syllabi and lecture notes; links to web addresses; PowerPoint files; graphics and video files; and communication via e-mail, digital drop box, discussion boards, and chat rooms. Methods of using these tools will be reviewed, as well as roadblocks, successes, failures, over assumptions, likes/dislikes by students, and learning results. The format of the session will be a short presentation reviewing the methods used, including accessing the course web sites and reviewing materials. The session will encourage interaction with the audience on what works and doesn't work with web-based courses using Blackboard 5.
