|
- Janet Seggern & Linda Novak, Lehigh Carbon Community Colege
|
| Our presentation would be best classified under the Teaching and Learning category. We will begin with a short demonstration (5 to 10 minutes) of speech recognition technology using Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred Version 6. We will then utilize a PowerPoint slide show and will cover the ins and outs of implementing a training program for students and faculty as well as present the positive and negative aspects of utilizing the software.
Janet Seggern will demonstrate the software and discuss the necessary hardware and software requirements, microphone requirements, software installation for multiple users, speaking ability/clarity and accents/impediments, class preparation, time frame needed for training, typical problems encountered by students, and the success/failure of the training of students and faculty. An analysis of potential improvement in student performance over the course of the speech recognition training class will be presented by tracking student progress in developmental writing courses and other courses. A review of student and faculty use of the software post-instruction will be included.
Linda Novak will present from the point of view of a faculty member who has been trained on the software. Her goal is to become a competent user of the speech recognition software for class preparation activities, administrative paperwork, and e-mail. She will cover the success/failure of learning to use the software and the success/failure in using the software to complete routine faculty activities.
A question and answer session will end our presentation. |
