Videoconferencing and Course Management Software working hand-in-hand to expand course availability

  • Ann Miller, Edison Community College
Edison Community College is enabling students to receive high quality learning experiences and to broaden their educational experience through videoconferencing and course management software. Videoconferencing facilities and course management software create new possibilities for satellite campuses. Videoconferencing enables students to attend classes in a near traditional setting. An obstacle to videoconference classes is the distribution of course materials, quizzes, and exams. Through the BlackboardÒ Online Course Management system students access course materials, print information, prepare for class sessions, and take exams from the online course web site. This can be accomplished in the classroom, college-learning center, or from offsite locations such as home, libraries, and places of employment. Enhancements such as e-mail, discussion boards, and online testing enables the instructor to keep in close contact with their students. Group project work can be completed within Blackboard so students from different locations can collaborate together on projects. The concepts of this presentation can be used effectively for videoconferencing, distance learning or web-enhanced courses.
