Linux – The OTHER Operating System

  • Christopher Kidd, Instructor of Information Technology, Prestonsburg Community College

This is one of several sessions outlining the use of open-source software. This session will provide both an introduction and demonstration of the Linux operating system in both the desktop and server roles. Topics to be covered include: computer hardware requirements, hardware compatibility, available software, software and data compatibility with Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh, cost of ownership compared to other operating systems, and the various versions/flavors available. A demonstration of both a desktop and server system will be presented.
