Can you hear me now? Good - Using webcams and BlackBoard to create a virtual classroom

  • Myrna Finn, Professor, Salem State College; Christine Geiger, Educational Technology Consultant

The objective of this session is to discuss, from a technical and pedagogical standpoint, the development and creation of an online course that uses two way audio and video. The pros and cons of this method of educational delivery and the outcomes of the implementation of a course in Interpersonal Communication in the Fall 2002 using this approach will be examined. We will address the elements that go into creating and developing an effective, interactive, engaging online course. Resources needed such as time, people, money, platforms used for the web editing tools and for hosting the communication tools and decisions about how to present course content will be discussed. Participants will be able to learn how to implement a synchronous virtual classroom environment in any discipline using Blackboard and CUWorld.
