Relationships Between Computer Skills and Technostress Levels: How Does This Affect Me?

  • Sonya Shepherd, Georgia Southern University

The struggle to adjust to rapid technological change has increased for those in higher education. Change is an inevitable part of society and each individual handles change differently. Furthermore, technology’s effect has been positive and negative. There has been resistance to the increased development and use of technology and this resistance may be dependent upon certain factors. The purpose of this presentation is to define computer stress; identify symptoms, causes, and coping strategies; and reveal study results that investigated the relationship between faculty and librarians’ computer skill levels and their levels of computer stress. Participants will also complete the survey instrument used in the study to find out what their computer skill levels are as well as to determine their computer stress levels.
