Digital Ink for Online Teaching: An idea whose time has finally come

  • William Bernhardt, Mark Lewental, & Peter Miller, The College of Staten Island, City University of New York

After many premature announcements, the technology (hardware and software) for pen input and annotation of typed documents is finally ready for prime time. An ongoing project at The College of Staten Island utilizes graphic tablets, tablet pc’s and inexpensive, off-the-shelf software to mark student papers, support collaborative writing/editing and facilitate note-taking in the online environment. Participants will come away with a sense of how this intuitive and cost-effective technology can be utilized on their own campuses and in their courses.
