Technology Planning Strategies

  • Kathy Decker, Clarke College

Effective planning strategies drive achievement of an overall technology goal… “to increase access to real-time electronic information resulting in increased efficiency, productivity, and communication”. ‘Anytime Anywhere’ access to student information, calendar, email, course management tools, and the Intranet results in improved student services and enables faculty and staff to support students effectively. Eight strategies form the framework of our plan. These guide achievement of the following outcomes: 1) Student services drive project priorities. 2) Administrators support technology innovation. 3) Collaboration is the decision-making model. 4) Research on emerging technologies is continuous. 5) Decisions evolve as technology changes. 6) Standards determine purchasing. 7) Projects are phased-in gradually. 8) Communication leads to success. Planning is initiated, explored, and promoted by the Technology Learning Roundtable, Academic and Administrative departments, and Information Technology Services. Implementation and maintenance of a highly reliable technology enriched campus focuses on resources, training, support, innovation, and communication.
