Reaching a New Audience: Development of an Information Technology Minor
  • Laurie Patterson, University of North Carolina at Wilmington

Students are demanding more computer knowledge. Companies are demanding that their entry-level employees be more technologically savvy. What this also means, is that some computer science departments must move away from teaching solely computer science and start adding programs in computers that more directly meet the needs of employers and non-computer science majors. In answer to these demands, the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) has established an interdisciplinary minor in Information Technology.
