Glimpsing the Future: technology, reading and the library of the future
  • David Cossey, Union College

Technology has changed and will continue to change the library. This presentation will look at technology developments and how they are changing and will change the library. Also, what will reading be like in the future. This is not the first technology revolution to impact the library – is it the most dramatic? We are at a point in history when it is possible to carry around in our pocket what was once thought to be a fairly decent sized library. How is technology changing our reading habits? Is reading increasing of is it in danger of becoming extinct? The statement often quoted “So many books, so little time” Can be paraphrased as “So many books, so much RAM, still so little time” [This presentation is based on a talk revised and presented annually for the past 7 years at the New York Library Association conference.]
