Faced with the challenge of devising a means of assessing the level of computer competency among the student body, the faculty at Hampden-Sydney College discussed and debated a variety of possibilities before making the decision to try the SAM (Skill Assessment Manager) product from Thompson Course Technology. After using the product for two years, they have learned many “how to” and “how not to” lessons. This presentation will explore why the Thompson Course Technology product was selected, alternate options, lessons learned, statistics gathered, and the next step. There will also be a demonstration of the SAM product.
