Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, the same technology that performs the EZ-Pass turnpike gateway function for your car, can open up new application areas on college and university campuses; examples are fixed asset tracking, security control, parking and vehicle access, library book tracking, materials handling, and many other "payback" uses. The presentor will define how RFID works, its' functional elements and costs, then depict how it can be used to solve today's technology challenges. In addition, RFID's success in industry, government and medical arenas will be reviewed to convey the need to update curricula to meet the growing demands for RFID knowledge and expertise.
