Using Audacity: a Cross-platform, Freeware Sound-Editing Program
  • Thomas Marcais, Sweet Briar College

Audacity is a free audio editor, available for Windows, Macintosh or LINUX computer systems. You can record sounds, play sounds, import and export WAV, AIFF, and MP3 files, and more. In this session, learn how to record and edit a vocal narration, and how to transfer Cassettes / LP's to CD's. If time permits, other advanced features will be covered such as changing pitch (without affecting the tempo); applying Fade In / Fade Out effects; and the process for removing vocal tracks from stereo recordings. Time will be reserved at the end of the session for discussions on how sound-editing software can best be utilized within a campus environment.
