E-Portfolios for the Rest of Us! Using TaskStream

Learn how to use TaskStream (http://www.taskstream.com) to create Web-based student portfolios, manage courses, align standards with class assignments and assessments. TaskStream provides off-site server access to and storage for student and instructor materials. Components of the system include a portfolio builder, rubric builder, lesson builder, Web page builder, e-mail, discussion board, instant messaging, and announcements. Instructor tools include national and state K-12 content area standards that can be used in lessons and rubrics. All users can easily create instructional Web sites hosted by TaskStream. TaskStream can be used to organize and aggregate data for individual certification and institutional accreditation support, including NCATE. There is no institutional cost; access to TaskStream is available through affordable individual student subscriptions. Workshop will provide complimentary accounts for participant use in a hands-on environment.

Presenter Bio(s):

Tim Hall is an associate instructor in teacher education at the University of Indianapolis. Previously he completed thirty-five years as a math and technology specialist in the MSD Warren Township School District of Indianapolis. He participated in two years of a pilot program of student teacher portfolio development at the U of I. He teaches courses in educational technology and multimedia development.

Elizabeth Kiggins is the Director of the Center for Instructional Technologies and Assistant Professor of Instructional Technology at the University of Indianapolis. She works with faculty to integrate technology into teaching to enhance learning. Her responsibilities also include technology-related faculty development and distance learning as well as directing The University of Indianapolis Blackboard Certified Education Center. She was presented the 2004 Support for Online Teaching and Learning Award from the Indiana Partnership for Statewide Education.

George Weimer is Professor of Teacher Education and Music at the University of Indianapolis where he teaches courses in music and educational technology. He has degrees from the Ohio State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has conducted numerous Blackboard workshops and published research related to distance learning issues.
